Dr. McDonald Discusses Catholic Schools LISTEN!

Jubilee Schools are schools that have been created with the goal of providing a high school and college preparatory educational program for approximately 1,650 children whose families would not otherwise be able to afford a private Catholic school education. The schools primarily serve the neighborhoods located in the inner-city and urban areas of Memphis. Beginning in 1999 with just one kindergarten of 26 students; there are now eight Jubilee Schools: De la Salle, Holy Names, Resurrection, St. Augustine, St. Joseph, St. John, St. Patrick, and St. Teresa Little Flower. Many of the schools’ buildings had been closed for more than twenty years and they are now resurrected and serving our students.

Jubilee School’s tuition is based on a sliding scale of each individual family’s ability to pay. In order to meet the needs and challenges of the Jubilee School families, the school offers a full-day program that includes breakfast, lunch and a backpack of food for the weekend. Through community outreach the students also receive dental, eye and medical screening. Uniforms are provided and are washed at the school if needed. Our program is designed to prepare students to attend college, and stresses character, discipline, development, self-respect as well as an academic program through a rigorous curriculum.

Jubilee Schools offer a life-changing opportunity to its students and their families. The program is rigorous and requires intensive participation of the students’ families. In fact, families of Jubilee School students and their parents or guardian must sign a pledge with the school to reinforce such participation. Jubilee Schools recognize the family as a partner in the education of each child. The student’s success depends on the commitment to that partnership.

After graduating from Jubilee Schools, we expect that the majority of our students will go on to excel at other area Catholic high schools where their scholarship follow them to such as Memphis Catholic High School “Education that Works” and Bishop Byrne High School. Our hope is that, after completing college, many of our students will return to Memphis to become productive, influential citizens and perhaps even future leaders of the city.

By contributing to Jubilee Schools you improve a child's life each and every day as well as a community as a whole. For every dollar you give, it will be matched or doubled with our 2010-2012 challenge grant. This is the time to give. Be a part of this positive change in Memphis. Be the solution - Jubilee Schools!
